KDE neon + Kernel 4.8

We are currently looking to roll out Kernel 4.8 and I’d love to get some informal testing done first. Everyone who wants to help with testing the 4.8 Kernel please install and reboot afterward:

pkcon refresh; pkcon install linux-generic-hwe-16.04 xserver-xorg-hwe-16.04

Once you are on 4.8, please let me know if you have any problems or if everything is fine 🙂

  1. That’s tricky – I have a laptop with Intel GPU – newer kernels & Mesa git are definitely a good thing there. OTOH I have a desktop machine with AMD GPU and if you want the things that amdgpu-pro provides (…) then the current limit is 4.7
Is there a compelling reason to jump to 4.8 – like making Wayland work better or something?

  2. For some reason kmail crashed on startup after the upgrade. Even after a downgrading again it still crashed on startup. Strangely it worked when I installed kontact and ran kmail inside it but now it does not run it as a standalone app.

Not sure how it can be related to the upgrade but a strange co-incidence.
